What scouts do

Weekly meetings mix games with hands-on skills, then scouts put those skills to use outdoors on hikes, camps and at competitions.

  • Camping and hiking, from day hikes to weekends under canvas
  • Pioneering: knots, lashings and building with poles and rope
  • Fire lighting and backwoods cooking
  • First aid, map reading and navigation
  • County and national competitions, including the Cork Shield and the Phoenix Challenge

The patrol system

Each scout belongs to a patrol of around six, led by a Patrol Leader and an Assistant Patrol Leader. Older scouts teach younger ones, and everyone gets a turn at taking responsibility.
