This year we entered two teams in the annual Macaoimh County Indoor Soccer Competition, held in Blackrock GAA complex on 24th Feb. Our lads played with great spirit and determination and both teams were only knocked out by a penalty kick. Our ‘A’ team lost out in the semi-final, after a 0-0 draw, which went to penalties and eventually to sudden death. Our players – Eoghan, Conor, Adam, Leo, Robbie, David and John are a force to be reckoned with. The ‘B’ team progressed further to the final against 2nd Cork, Doyle Road, which was end-to-end football, with each team playing their hearts out. After 0-0 at full-time, we were beaten on penalties. Every team member tried their best and can be proud of their achievement. Well done to Daniel, Mark, Benjamin, David, Cian, Brian, and Conor.
Goal of the competition was, without doubt, that scored from the head of Daniel Squires in an earlier match against Passage West. David Ruddock crossed over a great high ball at speed to an incoming Daniel, who rose magnificently to meet it full-on, and directed a powerful downwards header into the opposite corner, whilst the keeper looked on helplessly.
