Phew ! what a week ....
First, on Wed
23rd May we took part in the County Macaoimh Sports Evening.
A fine selection
of the 74ths greatest athletes
ran, hopped, sprinted, pulled ropes and carried potatoes in spoons
against tough opposition. There were some great individual performances from
Clodagh Molloy and Brian Corkery who took home medals.
The results of
the Annual Macaoimh Challenge were also announced on the evening, with the 74th
taking 4th overall position this year. This was a great improvement on last
years competition where we came 7th, and great credit is due to all our
Macaoimh for the work put in at the various County events and activities since
last September.
More importantly,
we won “Best Spirit” award, which is a great indication of the unity, teamwork
and true scouting spirit apparent in our Macaoimh section. Well done to all our
youth members and leaders. We are really proud of you.
A few days later,
on Saturday, in blazing sunshine at Inniscarra, 26 of our Macaoimh had a blast
on the lake. Under the watchfull eyes of Colin Heas and Bernard Lyons of the
newly formed County Water Activities Team, we paddled in kayaks, sailed
dingies, made rafts ( and floated them !) and motored around the lake on a sailboard. Everyone got wet but the fun
we all had was incredible.
